WordPress development, built properly
Halt Designs builds and maintains WordPress sites for clients who want a lower-cost, easily-editable site rather than a fully custom build. Builds use a lean hand-coded theme with Advanced Custom Fields rather than a stacked page builder, are hardened against common WordPress vulnerabilities, and typically launch in three to six weeks.
Not every project needs a custom build. A five-page business site with a blog the owner wants to update themselves, on a tighter budget, is often served better by a properly built WordPress site than a bespoke one — the same honesty that leads us to recommend a Shopify theme over a custom store applies here too.
We do not build WordPress the way it usually gets built. No stacked page-builder plugins fighting each other for control of the layout, no fifteen unused plugins left active from a demo import. A lean theme, only the plugins the build actually needs, and hardening against the exact vulnerabilities that make WordPress the most-attacked CMS on the internet.
What you get
- Lean hand-coded theme — no stacked page-builder plugins
- Security hardening: login lockdown, file-edit disabled, minimal plugin surface
- Content structured so your team can edit it without breaking the layout
- Managed updates and backups available as an ongoing retainer
Questions
WordPress Development, in detail.
Why would I choose WordPress over a custom build?
If you need five to fifteen pages, want to edit content yourself without calling a developer, and have a tighter budget, WordPress is often the more sensible choice. We will tell you this directly rather than sell you a custom build you do not need.
Do you use page builders like Elementor or Divi?
Not by default. Page builders add a large JavaScript and CSS payload that slows every page down, and most of it goes unused. We build a lean custom theme instead, and only add a page builder if your own team specifically needs to rearrange layouts without a developer.
Can you fix or take over an existing WordPress site?
Yes, after a short audit. We will tell you honestly whether the existing build is worth hardening and maintaining, or whether the plugin debt built up over the years makes a rebuild cheaper over two years — the same audit we run on any inherited codebase.
How much does a WordPress site cost?
A properly built five-to-ten page WordPress site starts around USD 1,800. Add WooCommerce or custom functionality and it typically runs USD 3,000 to 6,000. Ongoing maintenance is available as a monthly retainer.
