Custom web development
Halt Designs builds custom websites and web applications in PHP and JavaScript for projects that need more than a templated site can deliver — custom logic, integrations, user accounts, or performance a themed build cannot reach. Projects run four to ten weeks depending on page count and integrations, and every build ships with server-rendered HTML, schema markup and a Lighthouse performance score above 90.
A site built on a purchased theme carries every feature its author imagined for every buyer. You pay for that in load time, in security patches, and in the day you need something the theme cannot do.
We write the code. That means the markup is exactly as deep as your content requires, the CSS ships as one file, and there is no plugin surface for an attacker to probe. It also means the site does what you asked for on the first build rather than the third compromise. If your project is a good fit for WordPress instead — most five-to-fifteen page sites are — we will tell you that on the first call and point you at our WordPress service rather than sell you a custom build you do not need.
What you get
- Server-rendered HTML — indexable without JavaScript
- Responsive from 320px up, tested on real devices
- Schema markup and clean URLs from day one
- Source code handed over, yours to keep
Questions
Web Development, in detail.
How long does a custom website take?
A marketing site of eight to twelve pages takes four to six weeks from signed brief to launch. Web applications with user accounts, dashboards or payment flows run eight to sixteen weeks. We share a written schedule before any work starts.
Will I be able to edit the content myself?
Yes. We fit a lightweight content editor to the pages you actually need to change. You are not given a page builder that lets you break the layout, and you are not made to email us for a phone number change.
Do I own the code?
You own it outright on final payment, including the repository. Our contract assigns all intellectual property to you, is governed by the law of your own jurisdiction, and there is no license to renew and no lock-in to us as a host.
Should I get a custom build or a WordPress site?
If your site needs custom logic, integrations, user accounts, or has outgrown what a theme can do cleanly, custom is worth it. If you need five to fifteen pages and want your own team editing content without calling a developer, WordPress — built properly — is usually the better call. See our WordPress Development service, or ask us directly and we will tell you which fits.
