Dr Tasnim Ahsan is an internationally-acclaimed internist and endocrinologist. A graduate of Dow Medical College, Karachi, she completed her postgraduate training in the UK. Upon returning to Pakistan in 1984, she made her career working in public sector teaching institutions. Her last assignment in government service was as the Executive Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, (JPMC) Karachi, the first woman to serve in that position. She has devoted her life to serving the underprivileged communities and teaching and training young doctors. She set up the first endocrine service of Pakistan in the public sector and is also a founding member of the Pakistan Endocrine Society. Following her retirement from government service in 2015, she set up a novel collaborative training program in endocrinology encompassing private and public sector institutions, aimed at producing highly-qualified and trained endocrinologists capable of serving the different socioeconomic strata of the populace. She was given the ‘Laureate Award 2023’ for ‘International Excellence in Endocrinology’ by The Endocrine Society of USA.
