From November 2018 to May 2022, she served as Special Assistant of the Prime Minister of Pakistan with the status of <span class=\"citation-1172 citation-1173 citation-end-1173\">Federal Minister, where she held the Cabinet portfolio of Poverty Alleviation; in that role she founded and was responsible for implementing Ehsaas, the largest social protection program in the country\u2019s history, which reached out to 15 million households and was widely acclaimed internationally. She was also t<\/span><span class=\"citation-1172 citation-end-1172\">he Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program during that time. Dr Nishtar<\/span> also served as Federal Minister in 2013. <span class=\"citation-1167 citation-1168 citation-1169 citation-1170 citation-1171 citation-end-1171\">Dr Nishtar is former Chair of several multilateral initiatives: WHO\u2019s High-Level Commission on Non-communicable diseases; WEF\u2019s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Healthcare; U.S National Academy of <\/span><span class=\"citation-1167 citation-1168 citation-1169 citation-1170 citation-end-1170\">Sciences Global Study on the Quality of Healthcare in LMICs; UN International Institute for Global Health\u2019s Advisory Committee; UN Secretary General\u2019s Independent<\/span><span class=\"citation-1167 citation-1168 citation-1169 citation-end-1169\"> Accountability Panel for Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Health and WHO\u2019s Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity. In 2<\/span><span class=\"citation-1167 citation-1168 citation-end-1168\">017, she was Pakistan\u2019s nominee for Director-General of the World Health Organisation and was in th<\/span><span class=\"citation-1167 citation-end-1167\">e final shortlist of three. She<\/span> currently chairs and is a member of several Lancet Commissions.
